Experience Requirements
In order to become a licensed contractor or Journeyman the Construction Industries Division (CID) requires that you either have two or four years of experience depending on the type of license you would like to obtain.    Click on the options below to find out more information on the different experience requirements.

Journeyman

General Contractor's licenses consist of: GB98 or GB2 licenses (General Building); MM1 - MM4 licenses (which consist of all major mechanical licenses such as plumbing, heating and process piping); EE98 and ER1 (Electrical licenses); and major road construction licenses such as the GA98.

Specialty licenses consist of: GS, MS, ES and GF classifications. They also consist of individual GA licenses for road construction. The specialty licenses are roofers, framers, painters, alarm systems installers, septic tank installers, etc.

Journeyman consist of all the journeyman. Whether you are a mechanical journeyman or a electrical journeyman, the experience requirements are the same.
