General Experience Requirements

In order to become a licensed New Mexico General Contractor, you must have a minimum of four years of experience, under a licensed New Mexico contractor. If you are from out of state and are a contractor in that state, you can have a licensed contractor from that state verify your experience. You are not allowed to verify your own work experience. Your four years of verifiable experience must be within the past ten years. Your experience has to be hands on experience covering all aspects of the trade.

If you do not meet these requirements, you can contact the Construction Industries Division (CID) to find out if there are any other alternatives for you.
